Over 200 guides attended Guy’s Farm on Saturday 28th April challenging their survival skills across the wild Guy’s Farm estate. In order to achieve their ‘Survival Skills’ badge, Guides learnt about map reading, how to read a timetable, what was needed in a survival bag, how to make a shelter and gather water, and how to cook their lunch over an open fire.
Sylvia Fisher said “Friends of Guys Farm decided to organise the day as a fundraising event and we were amazed at how popular it was – we were hoping for about 100 girls but eventually had over 200. They came from Bolton, Mellor, Fleetwood, Heysham and loads of places in between! The weather was kind to us and all the girls appeared to be having a great time.”
All the girls did have a great time and commented on some of their favourite activities including the den building and making cakes in oranges!
The day wouldn’t have been possible without the extraordinary efforts of all the volunteers who helped the lead up to the day and everyone who attended to give a helping hand on the day! Also, a big thank you to all the Guides who attended and got stuck in, you made the whole day worth it! A big thank you to everyone!
